turn an old window frame into a jewelry display

by:Merryshine     2019-11-02
Welcome to my first structure!
I will introduce the basics of how to convert an old window frame into a jewelry display that has several utilities that can be modified according to your needs.
I also made two Christmas gifts of different sizes for my mother and my partner\'s mother.
I used to make one for my girlfriend with different techniques and smaller windows. Materials:-Window Frame (
I used a 28 \"x 31\", this project is relatively large)-
Chicken wire or utility wire (
This Instructure uses chicken shreds)-Hooks (
Depending on your taste)-Drawer Pulls (8+ depending)-
Drawer pull bolts (
2 1/2 \", the standard is not long enough to pass and twist the knob)-Paint-Hot Glue-
Optional material :-Mirror-Framing Wire-
Mirror hardware-elmers glue (
Or cheap school glue and more paint to create a crack effect)-
Ikea hardware wall chart (
Protect the mirror)-D hooks (to hang)-Burlap Rope (
Used to cover the end of the wire, the fabric can also)Tools:-
Drill for guide holesHot glue gun (
According to whether you cover the end of the wire with fabric, the temperature is high, low)-Scrub Brush-Bucket-
DingTalk guns and DingTalk
Scissors-Paint Brushes-
Sundries knife or razor blade warning: the old window may contain lead paint, which is very harmful to your health. Please wear safety glasses and ventilator in polishing or in general.
I want to add this to the festival gift contest! Please vote!
After you get the window, you can start with the first step.
Clean and remove glass, metal and dirt.
Then let the window dry. -
Remove any remaining glass on the window (
Could be dangerous, please wear a decent pair of work gloves using caution and common sense). -
Remove the metal that may stretch out the frame, and the old window uses small metal pieces (diamond shaped)
Fix the glass.
These need to be removed for security purposes.
I used a tool knife, but also a pair of pliers. (
Again, please use and common sense with caution. )-
Clean windows of any dirt, remove old dirt, spider webs, etc using a wash brush and hose.
In addition, it is also good to remove old paint with hose. (
The paint may contain lead, which may be a hazardous use note and wear protection).
Preparation framework-Sandpaper-
Pick up your 80-grain sandpaper and start polishing the frame to remove as much paint as you can. -
Once you have cleared any scattered wood and old paint, grab the fine sand sandpaper and smooth the surface.
Fill the gap-
Putty knife, wood filler, sandpaper-
To strengthen the frame, I filled small spaces on the wood that met on both sides.
You can also use the glue if your frame is wobbly.
Keep in mind that the glue does have different stains and be sure to test the glue if you choose to go this way. -
Once the fill/glue is dry, you need to polish the area you fill to get the texture and uniformity.
Make sure the wood filling is dry, usually 2-
According to the level of the filling, 3 hours.
See the product for specific time.
Before painting, the frame should be free of sand dust.
I use a water bottle with paper towels to clean up all the cracks and gaps. Painting--
Decide for yourself.
The technology shown is called crackling, which uses the underlying coating, Elmer glue, and the top coating. -
Alternatively, you can draw it into a color and use a sander to make the texture.
Use your imagination! ! !
Burst sound effect
Make the most of Blogspot having a good post on this.
Please note the CREDIT **-
Testing is critical.
Pick up a piece of wood and try this technique and you may find it looks better to dilute the paint or glue.
I did not pour the glue or paint down. -Note-
The new formula of Elmer glue and wood glue is not good.
Use any cheap white school glue (
I also used the dollar store glue). -
First of all, paint your background.
I used the paint on one and the glossy interior paint on the other, both were great. -
Let the bottom clothes dry completely. -
Apply Elmer\'s school glue and don\'t be afraid to apply it there.
You want to make the whole frame big. -
Make the glue sticky and don\'t let it dry completely, otherwise it doesn\'t work. (about 3-
It should be 5 minutes). -
Coat the coat.
You want to draw in one direction, don\'t draw back and forth, otherwise it won\'t work properly.
Make sure the paint on the top coat covers the entire frame. -
Watch the burst effect! (
In fact, this happens quickly, but we may need to talk about it if it\'s your hobby to see paint dry. JK! )
Handle all poultry wires in this step (Or utility wire).
Make sure you have a great pair of working gloves because the wires are sharp. Use caution.
Wire ready-1.
Measuring window frames (
If you haven\'t done it yet, do it now). 2.
Unlock the wire, be sure to fix the rolling end of the wire before cutting. 3.
Cut the shredded chicken with a wire cutter, based on your previous measurements. 4.
Flatten the chicken line, I used a big tire, but feel free to create as much as I do.
Optional, paint the shredded chicken.
Add wires to windows 1.
Place the wire on the window and trim the wire as needed. 2.
Make sure the spacing of all sides is uniform. 3.
Clamp the sides of the frame and fix the wires down.
Then tighten both ends.
Start with the pull end, then start with the clamping end, a small amount of ground nailed to the wire. 4.
Pull the professor\'s wires through the frame in your way.
There is a way to do this and when you tighten an area you want to fix it and move to the area where the clip is fixed.
Try wrong.
Once you have bound the wires, you will need to handle the sharp edges.
It helps to trim it as much as possible to make it easier to heat the glue.
Hot glue on the wire1.
Hot glue sticks the end of the wire around the frame.
This will ensure that the person you give and yourself will not be cut off by the wire. Optional-
Add coarse hemp rope to the edge of the frame.
Since I am apseudo, this gives a finished touch to this project
This is a must-be perfectionist.
You can really be creative in this part. Hooks-
Depending on your window frame, there may be some different ways to do this step.
Some of the window frames have a small glass slot, and if so, your window doesn\'t need to drill the guide hole, just screw the hook into the slot.
If you do not have this slot for your window, see below.
Ready hook-1.
Pick up the pencil and make a horizontal line at the top of the window frame. 2.
Decide how many hooks and appropriate spacing you want, and then drill the guide holes according to the size and spacing of the hooks.
Adding hooks is very self-explanatory.
Drill the pilot hole for the knob.
I used 8 knobs so I drilled 8 holes.
If you choose to add a mirror, then: 1 before adding the knob.
Glue four mirror bracket hardware with super glue on the back of the mirror. 2.
Adding the hardware to the frame, I use the existing hardware that happens to be Ikea\'s wall chart hardware, and I can push the wire through it to support the mirror. 3.
Hang the mirror in the wire.
It really depends on you.
The first thing I did, I used a wire.
This is certainly a difficult way for the record.
The best way is to cut 4 pieces while you are walking and make sure each side is safe. See pictures. Add the Knobs (drawer pulls)
And bolts fixed in the pilot hole you drilled before.
Now you are ready to share your finished product.
I hope this instructions are useful, please feel free to leave a comment or add tips and tricks!
* This is 2 window jewelry displays I made at the same time.
Note that they are different in color so not exactly the same.
